Through the filmmaker’s personal journey, the film explores:

  • The immigrant experience and the complexities of belonging
  • The realities faced by immigrant women navigating survival, agency, and stigma across borders
  • The emotional and cultural challenges of returning home to reconnect with family and homeland
  • How trauma and silence are transmitted within Latino families
  • Immigrant mental health and the role of art as both therapy and testimony
  • Intergenerational healing through forgiveness and reconciliation
  • The ongoing forces driving displacement and migration, from Peru’s violence to Latin America’s struggles with authoritarianism

Director / protagonist Mabel Valdiviezo is partnering with grassroots immigrant organizations to present the film alongside community art healing workshops. These workshops explore family reconnection, identity, belonging, safety, and well-being.

Our goal is to provide a safe space for creative expression while building resilience and solidarity that supports participants’ overall well-being. The workshops will culminate in a community art exhibit and an installation themed as an interactive wellness garden.
